New Hillier Geranium shortlisted for RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year
Posted in Industry NewsNew Plants on 29 April 2025
Brand new for this year, Hillier Nurseries’ Geranium x oxonianum Gold Nugget® (‘Hillger’) has been shortlisted for the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year. Bred by Alan Postill, Sparsholt College will be exhibiting this variety, with supply from Hillier Nurseries.
The RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Competition runs annually, and celebrates exceptional new plants, with a particular focus on the latest advances and plant breeding trends. The full shortlist has been selected by RHS and industry experts, and will be judged on Press Day by RHS Expert Groups. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 20th May.

Geranium Gold Nugget®
Gold Nugget® (‘Hillger’) is a compact, mound-forming Geranium, with bright golden foliage patterned with red markings. Come summer, light pink flowers sit neatly above the foliage. Ideal for sun or part shade, this a very easy to grow perennial with bold spring foliage. We envisage this variety being used as you might a Heuchera, for vibrant foliage interest in pots and borders.

Where to see this variety
If you can’t wait the short few weeks until RHS Chelsea, Hillier Nurseries will be officially launching Geranium Gold Nugget® this weekend at BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair. So if you’re heading down to Hampshire this weekend, be sure to pop by the Hillier garden to get a sneak peek at Geranium Gold Nugget®.
We will also be showcasing Gold Nugget® on our stand at FlowerTrials – we’d love to welcome you onto our stand for a cup of tea and a chat through the latest varieties on our portfolio.
